Water contamination claims two lives

An aged person Kondala Tatayyalu of Mulakalapalli died due to diarrhoea on Friday night while undergoing treatment at his village. He was one of the 20 villagers who contacted diarrhoea when workers of a mini-cement factory at Elamanchili consumed contaminated water and food at the factory canteen on Wednesday.

While about 50 workers had fallen sick since Wednesday midnight and one of them, Unnishah of Uttar Pradesh died while being shifted to the Infectious Diseases Hospital here on Thursday. Eleven persons admitted at the hospital are recovering.

Diarrhoea had spread to the neighbouring villages where the factory workers, most of them from Orissa and UP, were staying. Medical camps are continuing on the cement factory premises and in the villages.
