February 28, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:50 am IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

Notwithstanding the disappointment over no announcement being made on the new railway zone with headquarters in Visakhapatnam, the development works sanctioned to Waltair Division at an estimated cost of Rs.695 crore have come in for appreciation from people.

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s statements in support of the new zone headquarters in Visakhapatnam and MP Kambhampati Haribabu’s stand that Visakhapatnam would get the headquarters have revived the hopes of locals that their aspirations would be met in near future. Visakhapatnam South MLA Vasupalli Ganesh Kumar, welcoming the development projects announced for the Visakhapatnam region, said the TDP’s target for the near future was getting the headquarters of the new zone for Visakhapatnam.

RS Member T. Subbarami Reddy expressed disappointment over the railway budget as there was no mention of the new railway zone for A. P. as also no mention of development projects and introduction of new trains. He also expressed disappointment at the demand for setting up an RRB in Visakhapatnam, which could provide better employment opportunities to youth from the region.
