A walk on the beach road by the Presidency Junior College, Isukathoa in association with The Hindu to mark the World Health Day evoked an impressive response on Wednesday.
The participants, mostly students carried placards with messages such as ‘Health is wealth,' ‘Quit smoking, lead a happy life,' ‘Don't use plastic, protect environment' and “Healthy life, wealthy life'.
The personnel of 108 emergency help service along with the vehicle also took part in the programme.
The walk, which started near the Palm Beach Hotel, culminated at the Submarine Museum. Regional Inspection Officer, Board of Intermediate Education, T. Suribabu, who flagged off the walk, said there was a need to sensitise people belonging to all age groups on the need for regular physical exercises and healthy eating habits.
The Hindu Regional General Manager T.V. Suresh, chairman of Presidency Junior College V. Vijay Shankar Rao and others were present.
The Presidency Junior College is part of RVGS Group of Education Institutions. Group's dean S. Dasika said they h ad started from a computer institute in 2000 to degree and junior colleges and acquired Chanakya Institute of Hotel Management in 2008.
The group also runs Chanakya Business School near Gurudwara.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Shankar Rao said the group was always in the forefront in conducting health awareness programmes like blood donation camps and educating the illiterate on Pulse Polio immunisation through NSS volunteers.
As the group's focus is on overall health of students, the management offers yoga and meditation to the students to reduce stress.
Capt. Dasika said as part of the World Health Day celebration, they in coordination with the Rotary Club of Elite had conducted a blood donation camp at Chanakya Business School.
