Walkers slug it out on Visakhapatnam Beach Road

650 persons take part in half-marathon, walk, and walk for senior citizens

As many as 650 persons participated in the half-marathon, walk, and walk for senior citizens organised by the Visakha Walkers’ Association on the Beach Road up to Bheemunipatnam on Sunday.

BJP leader Kambhampati Haribabu flagged off the events at 6 a.m.

According to association president V. Sureshbabu, besides half marathon, walk for 21.5-km, 10-km walk for senior citizens and women, 10 km race for young women were organised.

The following are winners of first and second places: Half-marathon: P. Arun Kumar and K. A. Ramana (18-24 years); K Buddhu and Sirish Prabhu (25-44) and Vajir Singh and V.S. Prakash Rao (45-54).

21.5-km walk: Vikram Singh and P. Subrahmanyam (16-24); Ch. Prasad and Navin Kumar (25-34); S. Viswanath and Dr. R B K Chakaravarthy (35-39); B V S Reddy and S Nageswara Rao (40-44); Rajagopal and M Suresh Kumar (45-49); R N Sastry and K V Ramachandra Raju (50-54) and T Ramachandra Rao and B V Srirama Murthy (55-60).

10-km walk: G. Krishna Rao and D. Suribabu (60-64); T. Raghupathi Raju and K. Satya Raju (65-69); M. Venkatrao and Ch. Dalayya (above 70).

Women: K. Santa Kumari and K. Vijayalakshmi (16-24); G. Parvatidevi and Sandhya (25-44); R. Padmaja and Ch. Krishna Kumari (45-54); V. Kusuma Kumari and V. Pushpakumari (55-59) and K. Vyjayanthi and D. Ramadevi (above 60 years). Rajababu and V. Kusuma Kumar stood out as best walkers.

Secretary Lata Das, organising secretary K. Tripura Sundara Rao and Visakha Veterans secretary Manga Vara Prasad helped organise the programme.
