Presidency Junior College, an RVGS Group institution, in association with The Hindu will be organising a health walk on the beach road on Wednesday to mark the World Health Day.
The walk will be flagged off by T. Suribabu, Regional Inspection Officer, Board of Intermediate Education, at 7 a.m. at Hotel Palm Beach and it will end at the Submarine Museum on the Beach Road.
Presidency Junior College chairman V. Vijay Shankar said that the walk was open to all residents of the city and the main objective of the walk is to create awareness on the importance of health.
Theme of the year
The World Health Organisation theme for this year is ‘Urbanisation and health' and the campaign is titled as ‘1000 cities- 1000 lives'.
According to a WHO report, urbanisation creates health problems, but healthy cities can solve them.
The urban population of Asia is expected to double between 2000 and 2030 and the health sector needs to take the lead in calling attention to the enormous implications of this growth in cities for the health of the people who live and work there.
Blood donation
Mr. Shankar also said that on the eve of the World Health Day, the college in association with Rotary Club of Vizag Elite organised a blood donation camp on the premises of Chanakya Business School.
In tune with its commitment towards overall good health, the college introduced yoga and meditation for its students on the campus. Apart from imparting junior intermediate course, the group also conducts classes for EAMCET, AIEEE, IIT and foundation courses for CA and ICWA.
