VUDA proposes underground parking

CM asks urban body to come out with action plan

Learning from experiences of other Urban Development Authorities in the country after a study tour, VUDA proposes to develop underground parking facilities on a pilot basis.

VUDA Vice-Chairman P. Basanth Kumar, who went on a study tour along with chairmen and vice-chairmen of other UDAs in the State, later made presentations to Municipal Administration Minister P. Narayana and Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.

On the suggestion of the Chief Minister that VUDA should come out with an action plan, a few proposals were made.

The underground parking facility was proposed on the lines of the one developed by Jaipur Development Authority in Rajasthan, Mr. Basanth Kumar said.

For thousands of shop-keepers in the Pink City parking was provided underground. It accommodates 1000 four-wheelers and from the parking lot a shuttle is arranged for the shop-keepers, Mr. Basanth Kumar said.

Chat Bazar

Another initiative that VUDA wants to promote is Chat Bazar a la Jaipur UDA. Around 25 shops sell snacks and delicacies unique to Rajasthan.

It’s government-run, hygienic and aesthetic offering typical Rajasthani cuisine to tourists, the Vice-Chairman said. Copper ware and lounge ware characterstic to Rajasthan are sold there.

Tourism project

VUDA also proposed to develop 800 acres on the top of Yarada hill as tourism project with botanical gardens, golf course, club house, resorts etc in public-private-partnership.

Besides it wants to augment existing land banks and develop town planning schemes for identified urban pockets in its purview.

Mr. Basanth Kumar said two pieces of land close to the TU 142 area have been identified for the proposed Sea Harrier museum.

Later an awareness meeting for VUDA employees was organised detailing the approaches of Town Planning, Engineering, Administration, Waste Management, revenue generation, transport and employment generation.
