VUDA has proposed an expenditure of Rs.412 crore for the current year pegging receipts at Rs.366 crore and a deficit of Rs.46 crore.

The Engineering wing gets the lion’s share of Rs.250 crore of which Rs.75 crore is earmarked to the soon-to-be resumed Harita housing project.

Giving details of the budget at a press conference here on Thursday, Vice-Chairman N. Yuvaraj said other allocations included Rs.50 crore to pay the government for land allotted, Rs.5 crore for a satellite township at Cheropalli Khandam near Anakapalle in 10 acres, developing second phase of land-pooling at Paradesipalem (Rs.5 crore), electronic total station equipment and training on AUTO CAD and GIS software (Rs.1 crore), Rs.6 crore for IT towers near VUDA office, Rs.3 crore for the health arena at the foothill of Kailasagiri and Rs.10 crore for the Children Arena. The Engineering wing gets Rs.100 for new works and Rs.150 crore for old works.

Solar power

Dr. Yuvaraj said solar power for the VUDA office that was paying Rs.90 lakh towards power bills was being considered and an allocation of Rs.1 crore was made in the budget. The potential is estimated at 100 kw and for 1 kw the expenditure is estimated at Rs.10 lakh.

For multi-level parking, Rs.1 crore has been allotted though the location has to be finalised. An allocation of Rs.20 crore has been made for paying back the LRS fee for applications rejected and Rs.35 crore to a company as land as promised could not handed over to it.

Explaining the deficit, he said it was less than last year’s Rs.168 crore caused mainly because there was more expenditure.

This year the receipts were expected to rise. Last year, the revenue was Rs.110.75 crore and expenditure was Rs.179 crore.

Though the allotment for engineering was Rs.290 crore, only Rs.30 crore could be spent. Dr. Yuvaraj said major work could not be taken up owing to the scam in land-pooling and other irregularities. The revenue comes mainly from layout and building plan approvals, land conversion, housing projects, layouts, shops and commercial establishments of VUDA, entry fee etc.
