The 98 death anniversary of Mahakavi Gurajada Appa Rao was observed by the Visakhapatnam Urban Development Authority (VUDA) on Saturday.

VUDA Vice Chairman N. Yuvaraj along with other officials garlanded the statue of the Mahakavi at Gurajada Kalakshetram and paid rich tributes to him on the occasion.

The Vice Chairman said that the writings and initiatives of Gurajada have become torchbearers to the Telugu people and his contribution towards popularising the colloquial language was immense.

‘Kanyasulkam’

Gurajada’s ‘Kanyasulkam’ remains as milestone for generations together and it has lifted Telugu drama to the level of world drama, he added. VUDA Secretary GC Kishore Kumar, Chief Engineer I. Viswanatha Rao, Chief Accounts Officer D. Vijaya Bharathi, Chief Urban Planner R.J. Vidyullatha, Estate Office B. Bhavani Das, in charge DFO V. Bhavani Shankar and Manager Subhadra Devi and others participated.
