VSP unions vow to fight disinvestment

Various trade unions of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant held separate meetings on Wednesday to take stock of the situation after recognised union elections and vowed to continue their opposition to disinvestment of RINL, the corporate entity of VSP.

CITU, AITUC and YSRCP held meetings s on their performance.

YSRCP’s trade union thanked the voters for making it the single largest union in its debut.

While INTUC and its allies with the support of TNTUC emerged recognised union, CITU, AITUC and its allies lost the elections.

All the unions, including Visakha Steel Employees’ Congress (INTUC) and TNTUC, the trade union wing of TDP, declared that they would fight against disinvestment.

VSEC general secretary Mantri Rajasekhar, who met RINL Chairman-cum-Managing Director P. Madhusudan on Tuesday, said that they would stand by the promises they had made to the employees before the elections.

At the CITU meeting, CPI (M) State secretariat member Ch. Narsinga Rao said they would continue their fight against attempts to privatise profit-making RINL.

He said after the UPA Government, now the BJP-led NDA was also keen on handing over RINL to private investors on a golden platter.

Captive mines

Asking CITU leaders to remain vigilant against the sinister design of the government, he said they would also put pressure on the authorities for allotment of captive mines to RINL to make steelmaking viable by reducing the amount being spent on raw material sourcing.

Senior leader J. Ayodhyaram presided at the meeting attended by N. Rama Rao and CITU district vice-president B. Ganga Rao.
