February 12, 2015 07:49 pm | Updated November 16, 2021 11:47 pm IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

A senior official of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant was found dead while on work on Thursday. Assistant General Manager Arvind Malaviya, 50, fell down in a chute (a rotating drum) in the sinter plant at around 4 p.m., according to union sources.

Though the cause of accident was not known immediately, efforts were on to retrieve the badly mutilated body. Sources said identity card and wallet of the deceased were recovered.

The sinter plant mixes and granulates iron ore fines and other fine material at high temperature to make a product to be used in the blast furnace.

An official of Corporate Communications said that they were yet to establish the identity of the deceased. While confirming death of an official, he said that they were trying to recover the body, which got entangled in the drum.
