Voters believed that the election promises made by Chief Minister-designate N. Chandrababu Naidu were well thought out as he had administrative experience and so voted the Telugu Desam Party in the general elections, this is the opinion of some of the YSR Congress party leaders in the district, party leader and former minister Dharmana Prasada Rao has said.
This was one of the many factors that led to the poor showing by the YSRC in the district, the former minister pointed out addressing the media here on Monday. He along with Jogi Ramesh and P. Sairaj interacted with party contestants and others who had directly participated in the elections as part of the analysis of the party performance at the hustings. The report would be submitted to the party leadership for action, he added.
The party leaders felt that the party manifesto failed to attract the attention of voters, they also felt that there was a need for better poll management. Some had suggested that the YSRC should have taken the local body elections more seriously.
Some sections of the party felt that not enough was done to rebut the damage to the image of former chief minister late Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy and members of his family which had affected the party’s poll prospects. Unfortunately the anti-incumbency sentiment was transferred to the YSRC, he pointed out.
Modi waveIn the Assembly segments in the city, the majority of North Indian population had been carried away by the Modi wave, Mr. Prasada Rao said. The party’s performance would have been different if the Assembly and Parliament elections were held separately, he opined. Party leaders, including defeated candidate for Visakha East constituency Vamsi Krishna Srinivas, and others were present.
