Vocalist Trichur V. Ramachandran to be honoured

The 48th annual festival of music and dance, being organised by Visakha Music Academy (VMA), will be held from Nov 25 to 30.

Established in 1969, VMA is doing yeomen service for the promotion of Fine Arts and general and classical forms of music and dance in particular. VMA began conferring its ‘Sageeta Kalaa Saagara’ title in 1971, starting with

Padma Vibhushan Mangalampalli Balamuralikrishna.

It bestowed the title on 58 artistes so far. Vocalist Trichur V. Ramachandran, who has an illustrious career spanning over six decades, will be conferred with the title this year. In addition, a lecture demonstration on 72 Melakarta Ragas composed with lyrics by Swaraveenapani will be conducted on Nov 26.

The annual ‘Artist of Distinction Award’ will be presented to Ch. Ramya Kiranmayi, an established vocalist and violinist.
