Vizag Inc. for extension of tax incentives to Brownfield Industries

Investors say fillip should be given to manufacturing and other sectors. Confederation of Indian Industry has prepared a 10-point agenda for development of industries in Visakhapatnam.

Vizag Inc. is pitching for extension of tax incentives under the package promised for North Andhra to Brownfield industries and steps to ensure uninterrupted power supply.

In representations submitted to Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, who held the first Cabinet meeting here on Thursday, the investors said a fillip should be given to the manufacturing sector and various clusters for hardware, software, electronics, ceramics and other sectors to make the city the industrial and financial capital of new AP.

Vizagapatam Chamber of Commerce and Industry honorary secretary M.V. Narayana Rao said tax holiday and other benefits should be extended to existing industries. Visakha Autonagar Small-Scale Industries Welfare Ramakrishna Narappareddy said the MSME sector is suffering a lot for want of incentives and liberal loans from the banks and hoped that under the new government there would be lot of encouragement.

10-point agenda

Confederation of Indian Industry has prepared a 10-point agenda for development of industries in Visakhapatnam which include focus on manufacturing sector, infrastructure, roads, airport, education and healthcare.

Federation of Indian Fishery Industries president Y.G.K. Murti said in view of depleting catch and abnormal increase in cost of operations, the fishing industry should be given a bailout package. He urged the Chief Minister to increase reimbursement of value added tax on diesel utilised by the fishing boats, in accordance with and proportionate to the revised diesel prices.

He also wanted VAT reimbursement to all the fishing boats instead of restricting it to a few.

Vizag Development Council vice-president O. Naresh Kumar in an open letter has sought sanction of Information Technology Investment Region (ITIR) on a fast-track mode, for which a survey has already been conducted, setting up of two IT parks on the lines of Raheja IT Park, a vision document for developing tourist infrastructure.

Managing director of Sravan Shipping and former zonal chairman of CII G. Sambasiva Rao said for the growth of industries, power availability was a big concern and hoped that an action plan would be prepared power 24x7.
