Bright lights, tall hoardings and a festive cheer – the mood is upbeat in the city as people gear up to bid adieu to the year 2013 in different ways. While streets and hotels are all lit up with lights and colourful banners, some organisations are ushering in the New Year by involving the marginalised section of society. On the occasion of the first anniversary of Ashraya Shelter Homes, an interactive programme with the residents of the shelter home is being organised by Association for Regional Tribal Development (ARTD). The organisation is in the forefront of the campaign for shelter rights for homeless people, whose members visit the ‘addas’ of homeless people and motivate them to come and live in shelter homes set up in association with GVMC.

Temples across the city are getting decked up and special pujas will be performed at midnight. Shree Shyam Temple near Kurupam Market is organising New Year celebrations in a grand way. A ‘Shree Shyam Akhand Jyoth Path’ by bhajan singer Naresh Sharma and his team will be held throughout the day on December 31.

Hotel events

Hotels have lined up an attractive array of events for the revellers. The Park is planning an event that promises to turn their property into ‘Sin City’. A mix of the Bollywood style along with the grandiose of Las Vegas will be the highlight. A dancer from South America apart from DJs and performers from across the country will set the mood for the New Year’s eve party.

Hotel Novotel is organising three parties at different venues in the hotel. The poolside party will have live music, the Rooftop party has a theme ‘Hookah Bar’ where DJ Rahul will be playing and its Convention Hall will be third venue of an event where DJ Gangu will be performing.

Bollywood dance group ‘Hot Shots’ from Bangalore will set the dance floor on fire at the New Year’s eve party at Golf Club that is being organised in coordination with Vihar. DJ Eddie will be playing non-stop foot-tapping numbers. To add more excitement to the party, games for couples and kids will also be organised.

Hotel Green Park will usher in New Year by celebrating ‘100 years of Indian cinema’, at The Meadows. Kolkata-based dance troupe ‘Exposure’ along with singer David will entertain the guests and take them on a journey across different phases of Indian cinema.
