The Telugu Kalasamiti of Kuwait has chosen the cultural capital of AP – Visakhapatnam – to present awards to the winners of the national playwright competition organised recently.
Announcing this at a media conference here on Saturday, Kalasamiti coordinator YSKN Swamy said that 59 entries were received for the competition from Telugu writers living in various parts of India. They were judged by noted stage actor from Ongole Rayapati Aashirwadam and stage expert from Hyderabad Gundavarapu Subbarami Reddy. The first, second and third prize winners would be given cash prizes of Rs.15,000, Rs.10,000 and Rs.5,000 respectively. He said that on the suggestion of the judges it was decided to give three consolation prizes of Rs.3,000 each to three other entries. The winners would be felicitated on the occasion.
Mr. Swamy said that the objective of the Kalasamiti was to promote Telugu art and culture. Efforts were being made to popularise Telugu stage plays in Kuwait, which has a population of 2 lakh Telugus.
Popular stage actor and founder of K.V. Memorial Arts P. Sivaprasad said that trade union leader V.V. Rama Rao, popular actors S.K. Mishro and Kallu Chidambaram and stage actor K. Vijayalakshmi would present the awards to the winners.
