Most of the, schools in the city celebrated Ganesh Chaviti, in advance.
Priyanka’s Vidyodaya High School celebrated the festival with students and staff members with the theme ‘pollution-free atmosphere’. Students made a beeline to mould the vegetarian idols combining vegetables like carrots, onions, cucumber and potato among others. A total of 51 Ganesh idols in different shapes were designed by the students and positioned at the pandal arranged exclusively for the occasion.
Headmaster of the school D. Bhagirath and staff members appreciated the efforts initiated by the children. Pupils of Pollocks School, in association with Rotary Club Vizag Couples distributed clay Vinayaka idols at the Sampath Vinayagar temple here on Sunday to promote campaign to use clay idols to protect environment.
This was part of Ganesha’s Go Green, a social and environmental cause initiated by the club to protect nature, earth, marine life and environment. People were urged to adopt the eco-friendly clay Vinayaka idols as an environment saving alternative to the plaster of paris idols during Ganesha Chaviti festival, Principal of the school Sandeep Chitra said.
The school children also appealed to the people to buy Vinayaka idols made of clay, alum and paper mache. Eight hundred eco-friendly idols were distributed. City-based Gurudeva Charitable Trust distributed 100 Ganesh idols in several villages in Araku Valley and Anantagiri mandals on Sunday, its member B. Venkateswara Rao informed. A host of committee members and voluntary organisations are joining the festive spirit by erecting life-size Ganesh pandals at different parts of the city.
Supporting the ongoing protest of Samaikyandhra, K.N.R. Constructions is installing 77-feet Samaikya Bala Ganesh at Lanka Vari Grounds, Gajuwaka. To add value to the ecofriendly campaign that grips the entire city, YSR Yuvasena Sidhi Vinayaka Pooja Committee is setting up 72-feet standing Ganesh made of clay, stalks and straw.
