The case against awarding the contact for upgrading iron ore handling facilities in the Visakhapatnam Port will come up for hearing in AP High Court on Monday.

Former port trustee and BMS leader Bhavani Shankarudu, who filed the PIL against the Rs.845-crore project, said as per the court order, the port authorities should not sign the concession agreement with anyone.

The port issued the letter of award to Essar on Friday. The court has asked the port to file the counter by Monday.

“The project being finalised on public-private participation mode will threaten the livelihood of the workers engaged in the project and deny revenue due to the port. This will only help the private investor,” he said.
