The II Additional Special Judge for CBI cases, Visakhapatnam, N. Ananda Rao on Monday sentenced a Development Officer in LIC to undergo three years rigorous imprisonment and to pay a fine of Rs.2,000 in a disproportionate assets case.
The accused Yellapu Srinivasa Rao was a Development Officer in the LIC of India, Seethammadhra branch in the city between January 1, 2005 and September 19, 2008.
He had acquired movable and immovable properties, in his name and in the names of his family members, disproportionate to his known sources of income to the tune of Rs.29,76,749 and he failed to satisfactorily account for the same.
After conduct of regular trial, the court pronounced the judgment convicting Srinivasa Rao for the offences punishable under Section 13 (2) read with 13 (1) (e) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
The judge also ordered confiscation of the properties of Srinivasa Rao to the tune of Rs. 25,31,500, which have already been attached by the court to the State.
