Two bio-toilets have been set up at Chavulmadum and Manorama Theatre areas on an experimental basis.

The toilets costing Rs.1.25 lakh each are developed by the Defence Research Development Organisation. Depending on the success of the experimental implementation, it will be extended to the other slums of the city in phases.

Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation Commissioner M.V. Satyanarayana felt that handing them over to SHG members would result in better maintenance.

The bio-toilet is made of fibre with a 200 litre tank above it.

Chief Medical Officer (Health) M Satyanarayana Raju and in charge zone commissioner Y. Srinivasa Rao were present.
