A three-day Visakha Rail Mela-2013, being organised by the East Coast Railway Women’s Welfare Organisation, Waltair, was formally inaugurated by ECoRWWO president Shalini Vishnoi at the RPF Parade Ground at Thatichetlapalem on Friday.

ECoR General Manager Rajiv Vishnoi, Ms. Shailini Vishnoi, Divisional Railway Manager Anil Kumar, ECoRWWO Waltair president Anju Anil Kumar and other officials went round the stalls at the exhibition.

Big draw

The General Manager pressed a remote to launch a working model of a diesel locomotive on display at one of the stalls. The locomotive and two other stalls depicting a train passing through the hilly terrain of Araku and a model showing the working of an alarm chain in a train caught the attention of schoolchildren.

A giant wheel, merry-go-round, and some amusement items turned out to be big draw. Addressing the gathering, Mr. Rajiv Vishnoi lauded the services of ECoRWWO not only towards railway employees and their family members but also for the general public. He appreciated the noble idea of ECoRWWO to utilise the funds generated from the mela for service activities. He released a souvenir brought out on the occasion. Ms. Shalini Vishnoi hailed the activities of ECoRWWO Waltair, particularly in running the Anurag Montessori School and sewing centre for the welfare of railway employees and their children. She said cultural and dances troupes from various parts of the country would perform during the three-day mela.
