A large number of people, led by Union Minister, state Minister, MPs, and MLAs and senior government officials and staff turned up in their whites and yoga mats and performed the Yogasanas as part of the in Second International Yoga Day programme across the district on Tuesday.

At the Swarna Bharati indoor stadium where the GVMC and Ayush have organised the programme, Union Minister for Civil Aviation P. Ashok Gajapathi Raju lit a lamp to mark the inauguration of the programme.

He along with State Panchayati Raj Minister Ch. Ayyanna Patrudu, Collector N. Yuvaraj, MPs K. Haribabu and M. Srinivasa Rao, Commissioner of Police Yoganand, DIG of Police Ch. Srikanth, Superintendent of Police Rahul Dev Sharma, Joint Collector J. Nivas and others officials performed the Yogasanas under the direction of trainer Ramesh of Yoga Village.

The programme went on for an hour. The Ministers explained the benefits of yoga and noted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has brought international recognition to yoga.

Pupils of Gudilova residential school performed Yogasanas. Several organisations and institutions like the YMCA, CRPF, Officers Club, Samata College, and Endowments Department organised the programme in which a large number of people participated. More than 3000 Navy personnel and their families performed the yogasanas at the ENC ground and on the decks of ships.
