Veteran journalist and writer Gurajada Suryanarayana Murthy passed away at his nephew’s house in Prahladapuram here on Tuesday. He was 92. His wife passed away five years ago.

Suryanarayana Murthy was correspondent of Andhra Patrika for a long period. He joined the profession as a reporter of The Indian Republic, started by Bhogaraju Pattabhi Seetaramayya, and worked for many Telugu and English newspapers and in the News Division of AIR. He had also started a weekly, Vijaya. Murthy established the Kasturba Memorial Reading Room and penned books like Vijayanagara Darshini, Visakha Pragatiki Pramukhula Soochanalau, Luminaries of Visakhapatnam, Glimpses of Visakhapatnam and Visakha Port and Its Origin. He had received Madras Telugu Academy’s best journalist award.

Murthy had a rare collection of press notes and press meet invitations he preserved since he joined the profession.

State secretary of Journalists Association of AP M. Yugandhar Reddy, president of district unit of AP Working Journalists Federation P. Narayan, and others condoled the death of Suryanarayana Murthy.
