Venkaiah scoffs at criticism over package

‘Centre doing everything to help A.P. develop on all fronts’

Union Minister for Urban Development M. Venkaiah Naidu on Friday expressed his ire at “politicking” over the demand for Special Category Status (SCS) and said that the Centre was doing whatever best was possible to help Andhra Pradesh develop on all fronts by offering a special package.

He was speaking at the inaugural of the India International Seafood Show-2016 here.

In an oblique reference to the criticism by the opposition parties over the failure to announce SCS, he said that the Centre was keen on fulfilling all the promises made during the elections, including funding the Polavaram project after declaring it as a national project.

He wondered why no one had questioned when Parliament doors were shut during the debate on bifurcation and the plea for inclusion of certain changes in the A.P. Reorganisation Bill was turned down.

He hoped that the Polavaram project, for which foundation stone was laid in 1982, would be completed on time by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu with total funding from the Centre.

Rubbishing the campaign launched by the Opposition against the NDA Government, he said, with the support of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, they were fulfilling all the promises such as setting up of IIT, IIM, and All India Institute of Medical Sciences.

‘MODI’ popularity

Mr. Venkaiah Naidu said: “MODI has become popular because it stands for Making Of Developed India,” and felt that Mr. Modi’s detractors were scared of his growing popularity among the masses.

The Union Minister said that the Visakhapatnam-Chennai Industrial Corridor (VCIC) and the Chennai-Bengaluru Industrial Corridor would spur development in Andhra Pradesh and offer several job opportunities.
