Politics is an inescapable reality it is everywhere and impinges on all aspects of our daily life, former national president of the Bharatiya Janata Party M Venkaiah Naidu said urging youth to take interest in politics.
Do your duty as a student or an employee but also think about the country, he urged the youth at an interactive session organised here by the party youth wing Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha here on Monday. More than 200 youth from colleges and those who are working gathered here for a breakfast meeting with the BJP leader.
Emphasising on the need for the youth to participate in politics he said to vote is a responsibility and asked the youth to bring pressure on their political representatives to perform. Make them accountable for their promises, put pressure on them to perform, if they fail ensure that they are not elected again, he said replying to a question on what should a voter do if the elected representative changes parties or does not pay attention to people’s needs.
Please vote for persons with character, calibre, capacity and good conduct, it is better to vote for a party with an ideology and not for a party that revolves around individuals or their families. Let development be the only yardstick for measuring the performance of a leader and vote only for development, he said.
India has a hoary history and traditions, he told the youth in his inimitable style, playing with words and using apt idioms and similes. “Even after throwing away the yoke of colonial governance we have not been able to shake off the slavish mentality, unfortunately we are carried away by the western propaganda and run down our rich traditions,” he said.
He called upon the youth to respect the nation’s rich traditions and imbibe the values that make our civilisation what it is.
Earlier, party State executive member K Haribabu called upon the youth to take an active role in politics and asked them to join the party whose ideology attracts them. BJYM leader P.V.N. Madhav, senior BJP leaders D.V. Subba Rao, Chalapathi Rao and Rangamohan, among others and a number of party leaders and activists were also present.
