The board of trustees of Visakhapatnam Port is likely to discuss the differences with the Vedanta in the management of mechanised coal handling facility under the aegis of Vizag General Cargo Berth Private Limited on Friday.
Vedanta, the promoter of the mechanised coal handling facility in the Outer Harbour, commissioned it in April. .
The company recently issued a notice of termination of concession agreement with the Visakhapatnam Port Trust. The facility was developed with a capacity to handle 10.18 million tonnes per annum.
The company contended that they were not able to handle cargo at the desired level due to failure of the port to dredge for handling bigger vessels and keep few other commitments.
VCTPL issueSources said that apart from Vedanta, the board meeting was expected to discuss the finalisation of Rs.633-crore contract for extension of container terminal.
Visakha Container Terminal Private Ltd, which developed the existing container terminal a decade ago, is the only party which submitted the price bid.
The board has to either accept the offer of VCTPL or recommend further negotiation to come to an understanding by revising the gross revenue share offer.
The meeting, sources said, would also discuss allotment of 30 acres to Vizag Seaports Private Limited, which operates two jetties for handling bulk cargoes.
