The city unit of BJP on Saturday staged a dharna and rasta roko at the busy Jagadamba junction to protest against imposition of 4 per cent VAT on textiles.
City party president M. Nagendra led the agitation. Former MLA K. Haribabu, who addressed the gathering, accused Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy of burdening the common man with taxes. Mr. Nagendra said the burden on public would be to the tune of Rs.1,000 crore.
Party State secretary K. Ratnakumari, BJYM national secretary P.V.N. Madhav, former city presidents P.V. Narayana Rao and T. Subbarami Reddy participated in the agitation.
