Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) member-secretary A. Sudhakar has called for maintaining a good environment by the industries to help increase the lifespan and living standards of the people, and advised use of technology in measuring air quality to control pollution.

He made the observation while delivering the keynote address at the one-day workshop on ‘Online continuous emission and effluent monitoring systems,’ jointly organised by the CPCB and Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL) at Ukkunagaram on Thursday.

Online monitoring

Mr. Sudhakar said e-governance and online emission monitoring systems were playing a vital role in ensuring a better and healthy life, and were contributing to reducing pollution levels.

He said people were more aware about the environmental hazards and that technology/Internet of Things was helping them monitor the air quality and take remedial measures.

He said industries were coming forward to share the data related to the emissions, thanks to technology and the Internet. While hailing RINL as the pride of the nation, he commended highly the ecosystem and the environment protection measures being implemented by it in and around the plant. RINL Chairman-cum-Managing Director P. Madhusudan mentioned that nature and mankind were struggling to survive due to rise in environment problems and hence companies tend to adopt more eco-efficient and innovative practices to balance nature.

He said maintaining ecological balance would enhance productivity by reducing inputs and improving efficiency. He said well-defined environmental control measures with strict compliance to standards would reduce human health costs from pollution exposure.

CPCB additional director M. Madhusudanan thanked RINL-VSP management.

AP Pollution Control Board’s senior environment engineer P. Ravindranath and other officials from the CPCB and the APPCB were present along with RINL Director (Operations) P.K. Rath.
