Seek release of scholarship, fee reimbursement
Students of Andhra University College of Science and Technology, belonging to the BC and EBC categories, staged a demonstration in front of the Central Administrative Office on the campus on Tuesday demanding that the government release their scholarships and reimburse fee.
Hundreds of students boycotted classes and reached the CAO office to participate in the dharna organised by the BC Students' Federation. Its president B. Kantha Rao said a sum of Rs. 20,000 to Rs. 30,000 was due to each science student. Many students faced a lot of problems due to delay in fee reimbursement and delay in release of scholarships.
The government would claim that its revenue was less when it came to reimbursing fee and releasing scholarships, but MPs and MLAs would hike their salaries.
People's representatives established professional colleges and swindled government funds in the name of bogus students, he alleged. Scholarship and fee reimbursement were the right of students, he asserted.
The students staged dharna for about three hours and later handed over a memorandum to Vice-Chancellor B. Satyanarayana, who assured them that their demand would be conveyed to the government.
