Union thanks Mayor

The Greater Visakha Municipal Corporation Employees' Union, affiliated to CITU, has thanked Mayor Pulusu Janardhana Rao and Commissioner B. Ramanjaneyulu for keeping their assurance and increasing the wages of sanitation workers.

Union general secretary P. Venkat Reddy said the wages that were Rs.600 and Rs.1,100 for Janachaitanya and Subhram workers respectively in 2006 had gone up to Rs.1,800 owing to a strike in 2007, Rs.2,886 in 2008, Rs.3,900 in 2010 and finally to Rs.6,700 now.

He demanded that night and day package workers be paid wages directly without middlemen, wages be paid by the 5th of every month, besides providing soap, oil, and gum boots to workers .
