UNICEF project for adolescents

March 05, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:51 am IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

UNICEF has sanctioned a four-year project for adolescent boys and girls of Visakhapatnam in view of the district having highest number of child labour in the State and also high number of child marriages taking place in the district.

A large population of Girijans and rural population being mostly backward contrasting with Visakhapatnam city are also reasons for taking up the project here, UNICEF representatives Ruth L. Leano and Sony Kutty George said at a workshop held here on Wednesday. The workshop was held to elicit to support from different Government departments and agencies.

Adolescent phase, between 10 and 19 years, was the period during which many critical factors would influence the foundation for adulthood, believes UNICEF and this project which would run up to 2018 would help them improve their thought process, enhance moral values and shift in the way they think about others and other positive factors.
