‘Indiscriminate use of air-conditioners and such other appliances is leading to spurt in demand for power’
A shortfall of 1,200 MW led to increase in load shedding in the city on Saturday. There was a blackout in several areas in the night for over two hours, and people were at a loss to understand the reason for it.
“There is a shortfall of 1,200 MW all over the State and we are forced to increase the frequency of power-cut,” a senior official of the APEPDCL told The Hindu. “Indiscriminate use of air-conditioners and other high-energy consuming appliances is leading to abnormal spurt in demand for power. The heavy load and abnormal demand, sometimes, results in tripping of supply,” he explained. The rising mercury and unscheduled power-cut are sapping people of energy.
