Two new railway platforms opened

The platform on the Gnanapuram side has been re-numbered 8 and foot-over-bridge extended to provide connectivity

June 17, 2010 09:01 pm | Updated 09:01 pm IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

Waltair Division of East Coast Railway on Wednesday formally inaugurated platform numbers 6 and 7 taking the total number to eight.

The increase in number of platforms will decongest the existing ones and help Railway staff take better care of passenger amenities on the existing ones, said Senior Divisional Commercial Manager H.L. Luwang. There has been a demand from the passengers to upgrade the number of platforms and make all the trains touch Visakhapatnam Station instead of getting diverted via Duvvada.

Passengers utilizing Visakhapatnam railway station had been demanding diversion of all new train that have been scheduled to run only via Duvvada to be brought to Visakhapatnam with additional facilities created at the heart of the city. Lack of proper connectivity between Visakhapatnam city and Duvvada railway station is inconveniencing city passengers. The platform on the Gnanapuram side has been re-numbered 8 and foot-over-bridge extended to provide connectivity to the new platforms – 6 and 7 from No.8.
