They allegedly committed 17 offences in city

A special team of Fourth Town police station on Wednesday arrested a two-member gang that was involved in over 24 house break-in, bike lifting and snatching cases since 2013.

The arrested were identified as Gangi Narasinga Rao (33) and Gollavelli Banesh (35), residents of Pendurthi area in the city.

The duo allegedly committed about 17 offences under Pendurthi, six in Gopalapatnam and one in the Airport region.

According to DCP (Law and Order- Zone- II) T. Ravi Kumar Murthy, both the accused are childhood friends and school dropouts and were earlier taking up small daily wage jobs for a living. Both were allegedly steeped in vices and to satiate their bad habits they took to crime in 2013, the DCP said.

The duo has been evading arrest for the last three years, and on Wednesday they were caught during a routine vehicle check.

Narasinga Rao purchased a motorcycle in 2014.

They using the vehicle as a getaway vehicle and did not get it registered, fearing easy identification, especially while committing crime, said Mr. Ravi Kumar Murthy.

On Wednesday, when they were caught during the vehicle check, the police noticed that the odometer indicated that the vehicle clocked over 50,000 km but was still not registered. When questioned they reportdly gave unsatisfactory replies and after further interrogation, they reportedly spilled the beans.
