Two members of the Korukonda area committee of the banned CPI (Maoist) along with a deputy commander of the area committee’s militia and six armed militia members of the Galikonda area committee have surrendered here before Superintendent of Police Rahul Dev Sharma on Saturday.

They have surrendered reportedly unable to carry the heavy work load assigned to them, pressure from their families and counselling from the police side, Mr. Sharma claimed.

Area committee members Muvvala Krishna alias Ganesh and Seendri Nagesh, both from Velamjuvvi under Balapam Panchayat in Chintapalli mandal, carried a reward of Rs. 1 lakh each on their head. Twenty-five-year-old Ganesh had been with the party since 2006 first as commander of the children’s group (Baalala Sangham), then became militia commander in 2011 and area committee member three years ago.
