An engineering student and his friend were arrested by the Cyber Crime police on Tuesday on a charge of blackmailing the marketing manager of a software company.
Bhavani Prasad (17), a B. Tech student, was in love with a girl who was employed at Technosoft Solutions. Prasad and the girl were friends but the latter didn't have such ideas.
He noticed the girl going out with the marketing manager V. Bharat Kumar on some work.
“Prasad thought that his girlfriend was going steady with Bharat Kumar and became jealous.
He conspired with his friend Seeram Raju (23), a petty businessman, and asked the latter to call Bharat Kumar on his mobile and issue threats,” Cyber Crimes Inspector B.V. Venkateswara Rao said.
Raju started making calls to Bharat Kumar on his mobile during the last 10 days. Raju and Prasad got pamphlets printed giving the name and phone number of Bharat Kumar and asking the public to contact him, if they needed call girls. They pasted the pamphlets at bus tops.
On a complaint filed by the victim, the Cyber Crime police tracked down the culprits. The mobile phone and SIM card used for committing the crime were seized from them. The accused would be sent for remand.
Convicted for gambling
Third Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate G. Ramakrishna on Tuesday found R. Ramulu and G. Venkateswarlu guilty of organising gambling through playing cards and sentenced each of them to undergo one month's imprisonment and to pay a fine of Rs. 500.
Twenty three others who were caught playing cards were each fined Rs. 500.
The sentences were imposed under Sections 3 and 4 of the AP Gaming Act of 1974. Additional Public Prosecutor M. Adinarayana submitted to the court that Inspector Ravi Varma and his staff caught the accused while they were gambling at a cashew nut grove at Devada on October 1, 2006.
