Two employees arrested on charge of sexual harassment

Their colleague, a tribal, had lodged a complaint

The rural police on Monday arrested two employees, including a Sri Lankan national working at the Apparel City, Atchutapuram SEZ, on charge of sexually harassing a tribal woman employee.

The arrested have been identified as general manager of the company and Sri Lankan national Dileep Pinto (55) and senior executive officer of the firm Malla Shyam Sundar (30). The 28-year-old victim is a native of Jharkhand and resident of Malkapuram area in the city.

According to the police, the woman had joined the firm as an operator and she was promoted to a senior executive in the administration department.

However, she was removed from the duties on the grounds of poor performance in December 2017.

The victim lodged a complaint of sexual harassment by two employees.

Following instructions by Superintendent of police Rahul Dev Sharma, DSP of SC/ST Cell, Ch Vivekananda enquired and investigated the case.

Both the accused were produced before the court and were sent to remand, the police said.
