Two die, 3 injured in illegal cracker unit blast  

The disaster happened at Devarapalli under Chodavaram Police Circle, on Wednesday afternoon.

Two workers died on the spot and three others were seriously injured in a blast at an illegal fire cracker manufacturing unit at Devarapalli under Chodavaram Police Circle, on Wednesday afternoon.

The deceased were identified as G. Budhi and K. Rambabu.

According to Chodavaram Circle Inspector Murali, owner of the unit K. Nageswara, a native of Anarparthi in East Godavari district, is a habitual offender and was earlier involved in manufacturing fire crackers illegally.

The illegal unit was just commissioned on Tuesday and the accident occurred on Wednesday, the police informed The Hindu.

The injured were first shifted to Kothapadu and then moved to a hospital in Chodavaram.

According to Mr. Murali, the injured were just curious onlookers and might be shifted to the Visakhapatnam city for further treatment.

The cause of the blast and is yet to be ascertained.
