The city police on Monday arrested two couples in different cases. In the first case, N. Srinivas and his wife N. Sreedevi were arrested on the charge of their involvement in chain snatchings in their quest for a lavish lifestyle. They committed more than four offences by accosting their targets, mostly women, by approaching them on their motorbike, according to Assistant Commissioner of Police (East) D.N. Mahesh.
The couple claimed that they were committing crimes to overcome their financial problems. The ACP said that the local people caught the accused while they were attempting to snatch a gold chain from a woman, and handed them over to the IV Town police. The motorbike used for committing the crimes and 25 gm gold ornaments were recovered from them.
In another incident, B. Sankar Rao and Madhurika were arrested on the charge of running a brothel from a rented house near Lalitha Nagar under IV town (Dwaraka Zone) police station limits. Inspector of Police Balasurya Rao said the couple were from Anakapalle.
Acting on a tip-off, the policemen arrested the couple and two customers on the spot and rescued the girls who were brought from Anakapalle. The police also seized around Rs. 20,000 in cash and gold ornaments from the couple.
