Two bike lifters held, 14 motorcycles seized

Two motorcycle lifters were arrested and 14 bikes recovered from them by the Fourth Town Police.

The accused, L. Venkata Sandeep (20), of the city, and K. Gouri Shankar (34) of Araku Valley stole the motorcycles by using old keys to remove the handle lock. Sandeep, who hails from a well-to-do family in the city, was employed in a private company. He became addicted to vices and asked his parents to buy him a Pulsar bike for him.

His parents refused and he decided to take to stealing of parked motorcycles along with Gouri Shankar, who earned a livelihood as a painter and was finding it difficult to make ends meet, Additional DCP (Crime) S. Varada Raju told a media conference on Friday.

Fourth Town SI B. Srinivas and his team arrested the accused near Diamond Park on Thursday evening.

The 14 bikes, valued at Rs.2.8 lakh, were stolen from different areas in the city under different police station limits. ACP (East) D.N. Mahesh and Inspector Appala Naidu were present at the media conference.
