The 400-bed Viskaha Institute of Medical Sciences, that is awaiting inauguration, is eminently suited to be made into an All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Rajya Sabha member T. Subbarami Reddy has written to Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda.
The VIMS, taken up in 2006-07 by the State government, is ready but pending inauguration for want of funds. The hospital along with super-speciality government hospital – King George Hospital – will give people of north Andhra access to quality medical services, he has opined.
With Regional Eye Hospital, Victoria Women’s Speciality Hospital, Institute of Mental Health, Chest Hospital and ENT Hospital, the city has specialist doctors in government sector to provide services to the people of the State. With the specialities, Viskahapatnam can rank as a medical destination, he has written in his letter.
