The staff of the KGH will provide full attention to all the tribals who come there for treatment, deputy superintendent of KGH Venkateswara Reddy said.He was addressing the members of Visakhapatnam chapter of Girijana Aikya Vedika (GAV) who met here on Sunday to mark the first anniversary of its formation. He asked the members to call either him or the Superintendent M Madhusudhan Babu in case any lower-level official was not responsive and gave their contact numbers.
The Lions Club Blood Bank would help issue blood units to the Girijan patients who were undergoing any surgery this is without any commitment to replace it in the blood bank, former governor Lions Club International N V N Durga Prasad Rao said.
Leaders of the Vedika urged the government to ensure that the ITDA spends its funds under the ST Sub-Plan also on the tribals residing in villages that were outside the Scheduled Areas. The government should treat these tribals on par with the tribals in the Agency areas. There are 91 villages in the district that were outside the Agency areas but were essentially tribal villages and the residents of these villages were not getting any benefits being given to the tribals in the Agency areas, GAV leaders pointed out. After the formation of the GVMC the number of wards reserved for STs has come down from three to one, president of district GAV pointed out and demanded that at least five wards be reserved for the STs in proportion to their population.
The GAV constituted the mandal committees at the meeting. Deepuri Arun Kumar was appointed Paderu division coordinator for the 11 mandals in the Agency area in the district.Girijana Aikya Vedika Mahila Samakhya was constituted with Chellamma as its honorary president and G. Rajeswari as treasurer. The other office bearers would be elected later by the women members.
