Trekker leaves for Himalayan expedition

A trekker from the city, Kona Venkata Sunitha, is participating in the Sandhakphu National Himalayan Expedition, which is commencing on May 18.

Ms. Sunitha, a member of the Youth Hostels Association of India’s Visakhapatnam district branch, left for Darjeeling on Thursday to join the base camp at Darjeeling, secretary of YHAI State unit N. Nageswara Rao said.

The eight-day trek takes the participants through Darjeeling, Tumling, Kalipokhri via Sandhakphu, which is at 3,636 metres height.

Ms. Sunitha is the only woman participant of the expedition. She had successfully completed the Odisha sea beach trekking expedition held from December 23 to 30, 2013.
