Transforming adversity into an opportunity

April 02, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:44 am IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

The concept of finding happiness by placing our heart in what we do and the importance of having a positive attitude have been defined well by Sana Iqbal, a biker who had set off on a nationwide solo bike expedition to raise awareness against suicide and depression.

She reached the city on Friday and interacted with the students of Gayatri Vidya Parishad College for Degree and PG Courses, Rushikonda, as part of a session on suicide is not the solution for depression organised by the local chapter of the Confederation of Indian Industry. “Follow your heart, giving top priority for your wants than needs. Failed relationships and monetary problems should never rob our peace of mind. Learn the art of identifying the problems at an early stage and adopt a positive approach to tackle the same before slipping into depression,” says the young biker. Though help comes in the form of a few sponsors, Sana has embarked on the solo adventure with a motto to bring about a positive change in the young minds. “What plays a significant part is wiping away negative emotions that cloud clear thinking. However, it is easier said than done as it requires conscious effort and a support network to shake off the negative feelings that one is prone to experience at any point of time,” says Sana, narrating her dark experiences of life.

In the end, a few students asked the biker what kind of negative emotions that she was flooded with while facing hardship. “When I was going through a bad phase in life, fear used to be my constant companion. However, I conquered fear by adopting self-help techniques,” says Ms Sana, narrating how numerous negative feelings pushed her to painful solitude.

She says that ups and downs are part of life and it is up to a person to focus on the positive aspects of life, transforming every adversity into an opportunity.
