The Transport Department in coordination with the police would ensure strict implementation of the rules to reduce the growing number of accidents and fatalities on the roads due to violation of traffic rules.
Deputy Transport Commissioner S. Venkateswara Rao, who attended a meeting on reduction of road accidents in Vijayawada on Wednesday, held a meeting with lorry owners on road safety violations and penalties here on Thursday.
He said three teams of the Transport Department and five from the Police Department would be formed in each district to monitor road safety round-the-clock.
Overloading of lorries would result in cancellation of driving licence for at least three months and the lorry owner would be liable for prosecution if a person without licence drives the vehicle. Taking passengers in a goods lorry would result in cancellation of the licence; action would be initiated against the owner, if two drivers are not provided in vehicles with ‘national permit’; and driving under the influence of alcohol would result in prosecution of the driver, he said.
The cancellation of driving licence would be noted in the computer and the licence of those who indulge in violation of road traffic rules for three consecutive times would be permanently cancelled.
