The Telugu Desam Party’s three-day Mahanadu to be held from May 27 at the Andhra University Engineering College grounds in the city is a major challenge, especially for the traffic wing of the police.
Venue being in the middle of a thickly populated residential and commercial area and high traffic zone, the traffic police will have a tough time to keep the area incident free. Another aspect of worry is the width of the roads leading to the venue. Even DGP N. Sambasiva Rao expressed concern in this regard on Monday, when he reviewed security arrangements for Mahanadu.
Over 20,000 are expected to attend the Mahanadu from across the State and on an average at least 5,000 vehicles with passes will be queuing at the venue.
Giving details of the traffic management, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP) K. Mahendra Patrudu said to keep general public from using the roads leading to the venue, we will be closing the road from Three Town Police Station to Maddilapalem and it will be open only for the pass holders. “And as advisory we request the people not to use the road from Siripuram to Pedawaltair and from Rama Talkies to Maddilapalem, for the three days,” he said.
The police will divert vehicles of party leaders and cadre coming people from Vizianagaram and Srikakulam at Hanumanthavwaka and vehicles coming from Anakapalle will have to take the CR Reddy statue road and move to the venue via the Collectors’ camp office. While parking for all the buses has been arranged at the south campus of the university, VVIP parking is arranged behind the engineering college hostels, said Mr. Mahendra Patrudu.
No parking
No vehicle will be allowed to park on any of the roads leading to the venue at Maddilapalem on three days.
Eight towing vehicles and a crane will be pressed into service, 30 body cameras will be given to police officers, and 200 communication sets have been requisitioned.
About 200 stoppers will be put into use and each team will be given megaphones and public address systems will be installed at all critical places.
