Trader critically injured in attack

‘Wife, driver also targeted

About four to five assailants made an attempt on the life of a businessman in the city, here on Monday. Wife of the business and his driver were also injured. The businessman has been identified as Vikram Dhamija, owner of Best Builder Cranes, who lives in a high-end apartment in a posh locality on the Beach Road.

According to DCP (Law and Order) K. Fakeerappa, the total number of assailants is still to be ascertained as the victims are in a state of trauma.

However, as per the initial indication, there were over four persons, he said.

Mr. Vikram, who suffered multiple stab injuries, is battling for life, his wife and his driver are said to have sustained grievous injuries and are out of danger. All are undergoing treatment at a corporate hospital.

According to Mr. Fakeerappa, who visited the spot with a team, the motive is still to be ascertained.

Dog squad and clues team were pressed into service, said ACP (East) A. Narasimha Murthy.

Sources said the assailants did not take anything from the house and it could be a case of rivalry.
