Two torpedoes, installed near the in-gate of Andhra University, were inaugurated by Vice-Chancellor G.S.N. Raju on Monday. The torpedoes were donated by the Eastern Naval Command.
The Russian-made torpedoes were capable of carrying explosives weighing 200 kg and hit a target in 10 km or 12 km range. The explosives and other material were removed before they were presented to the university. The torpedoes were installed on the campus to inspire patriotic and fighting spirit among students, Prof. Raju said. Two more torpedoes would be installed on the AU Engineering College campus.
Rector E.A. Narayana, Registrar K. Rama Mohana Rao, Principals of campus colleges and others were present.
