Top honours for ‘Vidyasri’ students

After completing SSC in municipal schools and taking up Intermediate course in corporate colleges under the Vidyasri scheme of the GVMC, four students achieved good scores in the Intermediate first and second years. G. Kanaka Divya and T. Santoshi Kumari got 97 and 96 per cent respectively and Sakala Rama and Adhikari Sarita 98 and 97 per cent respectively in the first year.

Municipal Commissioner Pravin Kumar congratulated them at the GVMC Sweekaram Education Committee executive meeting on Tuesday. He congratulated the sponsors and donors who were supporting poor students under the Vidaysri scheme. He said in 2013-14, Rs.8.89 lakh had been spent supporting 97 students. In 2014-15, 238 students were supported with an expenditure of Rs.20.61 lakh.

The education programmes of the GVMC should be put on its website so that more sponsors and philanthropists would come forward, he told officials. Additional Commissioner (Finance) S.S. Varma, Chief Engineer Durga Prasad, Examiner of Accounts Y. Mangapathi Rao, Chief Medical Officer (Health) M. S. Raju participated.
