“A clear mind, concentration and good sleep can help one avoid accidents to a large extent. For the past 25 years, these three things have been helping me drive minus accidents,” APSRTC’s top driver from Vizag region A.V.S.N. Murthy has said.

At the drivers’ felicitation programme organised as part of the APSRTC Road Safety Week celebrations, Mr. Murthy said that one should be conscious and attentive while driving. Appreciating the decades-old accident-free service of the drivers from Vizag region limit and across the nine depots, 30 drivers were felicitated here on Saturday. Most of them have been working for more than 25 years with zero record of accidents.

The week-long celebration that began on July 21 had events like awareness meet, medical test for drivers, bus maintenance checks, counselling sessions along with their family, and blood donation camp together.

M.B. Das and P.S. Raju were among the top three drivers’ list of the Vizag region whereas D.A. Naidu, S.S. Narayana, and P. Satya Narayana were the top three drivers at depot level.

Efforts lauded

Lauding the efforts made by the drivers for making the district accident-free, APSRTC Director (Central Projects), Hyderabad, R. Sasidhar said: “For the last seven years, we have been making all efforts to bring down the road accidents to 33 per cent. Our target is to bring it to minus zero level by increasing the quality of our service.”

RTC Regional Manager Y. Jagadeesh Babu encouraged the staff to dedicate themselves to the service and protect the lives of passengers by following traffic regulations diligently.

In the end, sister Sivaleela of Brahmakumaris administered the safety oath to the drivers and depot managers who attended the event.
