Reports on three of the four suspected swine flu cases in the city have been received on Monday and they are all negative while report on the fourth case is expected in a day or two.

The fourth case, a four-year-old boy from Isukathota area, is recovering fast from the fever at the King George Hospital and he was also mostly likely to test negative and hence the threat of swine flu to the city was almost over, District Medical and Health Officer J. Sarojini said. However, the alert against swine flu would continue.

This should be a great relief for the locals who were in a great worry because a large number of people from Hyderabad, where the swine flu caused many deaths, had visited the city during the Sankranti vacation.

For the last few days many people had been sporting masks to protect themselves against swine flu.

Many visitors to the just concluded Visakha Utsav were seen wearing masks.

The cases which showed negative result to swine flu were the six-year-old boy from China Gantyada who had undergone treatment at private hospitals for 20 days and died within hours of admission to King George Hospital on January 23 and the seven-year-old girl from Pendurthi admitted to KGH with swine flu symptoms on January 23 and also her mother who had died of respiratory problem the previous day.
